A cider with a story
Our story began in 1964, when our grandfather Hugh “Yip” Mackay bought an orchard on the banks of the Saint John River in Long Reach, New Brunswick. He grew apples and made cider to share with family and neighbours, starting a tradition that his son Chas and, later, grandsons Joe, Sam and Hugh would carry forward. We launched Yip Cider in 2016, proudly putting his name on every can. Today, Yip Sparkle brings a new chapter to that family story, with a little more room for everyone around the table.
1964
A hobby on the Kingston Peninsula
Since 1964, the Mackay family has grown apples on the scenic Kingston Peninsula in New Brunswick. What began as a hobby for Hugh “Yip” Mackay, crafting soft and hard ciders for family and friends, has grown into a legacy of quality.
Generation two
A thriving local business
Passed down through generations, the orchard expanded into a thriving local business under Yip’s son, Chas. Mackay Apple Orchard became a favourite fall destination for families across the Kingston Peninsula and surrounding communities, who return year after year to pick apples and make memories together.
Generation three
Yip Sparkle arrives
Today, with over 20 acres of apple trees, a popular U-Pick and a commercial cidery, the Mackay Orchard’s third generation introduced Yip Sparkle, a refreshing non-alcoholic sparkling cider. Brothers Joe, Sam and Hugh carried their grandfather’s passion for cider into a new offering, building on the family’s apple-growing roots to create something even more people could enjoy.

Family-run, rooted in New Brunswick
Proudly family-run and rooted in New Brunswick, Yip is one of Atlantic Canada’s leading craft cider producers. Our production facility and taproom, opened in 2021 just down the road from the orchard, overlook the Saint John River. Here, our team makes and packages our cider on site, while visitors gather for a drink, live music and a taste of life on the Kingston Peninsula.
